THE HOME OF BODYPAINTING

The art of body art is an illusion factory. Happy fulfillment of technique, imagination and living instruments – the human bodies. A world in which the boldest ideas, fabulous scenes, dreamlike images, fantasies and even aliens can be made into reality by the spirit and body of human beings.
World Bodypainting Festival!!! World Championship of body painting artists from all over the world. An event with enormous traditions that has been taking place since 1998 in Austria. Host is the fabulous Portsatch resort on Lake Worthersee in the heart of the Alps.
Over 10,000 festival viewers and participants each year. Artists from 47 nationalities from all over the world, including Bulgaria. The competition is in four main categories: brush and sponge, airbrush, special effects and UV effects – all on naked human bodies. Main themes: pop art and artificial intelligence. In 2014, the Bulgarian participants were Svetlana Arsova, Zaneta Mileva and Mishel Valcheva. The jury of the installation contest also had a representative, Bella Volen, who is also a member of the World Bodypainting Academy. I got to a place where fabulous stories came to life on stage in the form of a 5-minute performance with an impressive set-up and music pre-prepared by each artist. This is a competition for outstanding artists. They have the fantasy and the skills to translate everything into matter. I’m not sure if there is a limit to their capabilities!
When the show is over, the make-up and the masks are washed away, and after this fairy dream, only the images sealed by the photographers remain. It is here that the art of the bodyart meets the art of photography. Unique and authentic moments are preserved and will never be repeated. It’s the magic of photography – to document, translate, store and expose the elusive. At the festival official accreditations had taken nearly 150 professional photographers, not counting the ones they did not have, with them the total number of photographers was impressive. At the photographic contest, held and jury three months after the end of the 1300 candidature festival, I managed to rank near to the top 10, which I consider to be a serious success that inspired me.
I hope I’ve managed to bring you briefly into this world of illusion.
I expect to come back where dreams turn into a living reality!
